Given the number of strangulations of dogs due to collars, these breakaways should be standard issue thoughout America-They should be promoted by every vet in the US and should be available for purchase at every pet store from coast to coast.

I have these on both my dogs, and although they play rough and wrestle a lot, the collars have only come off as intended – when the dogs were seriously in danger of being caught. They have caught the collars on fences and on each other, and every time it pops off I know they might have been hung up on something. In one case my dog got caught in the middle of a scuffle between two other, bigger dogs at the park, and the big dog grabbed his neck, and my dog wriggled out and the other dog was left just holding the collar! If it had been a regular collar he might not have gotten out of the situation so easily. I’m so happy with them that these are the only collars I will use from now on.

We ordered three size small collars and they fit our fairly regular sized pug and our two larger than average pugs.
The complaints that these break away too easily have not been true with our dogs, though I could see it being true with larger dogs.
The ability to still attach a lead to this collar by using both rings is great- we usually walk our dogs on a harness, but being able to use the collar for a short walk is really helpful. The rings seem just a bit far apart or a bit too small for how far apart they are- one of our smaller leads has a small clasp that doesn’t reach between them easily.
The only real downside is that sometimes the brass rings will weigh it down so they slide around to the front but that probably wouldn’t happen if we had heavier id tags than we do, and it really isn’t a big deal- there’s no harm in having the break away point in front and it can easily be turned back around.
Overall, I’d say 4.5 stars- these are nearly perfect for small to medium dogs.

A break-away collar was required by the dog boarding service we used when we went on vacation, but we were unable to find one at the local pet store. This one came in a choice of colors and at a reasonable price. The collar looks great and works as described. Since it has the override feature for leash attachment, we have just replaced the old collar permanently with this one! So far our dog has not tested the break-away feature, but it is comforting to know it’s there.
