SportDOG Rechargeable NoBark 10R Bark Control Collar

I bought this unit a few months ago for my stubborn Welsh Corgi, who loves to bark for no reason. I tried it for short periods of time at first, and then left it on for longer. Although the manufacturer says to take the collar off at night, I left it on her by mistake for 2 days. when I went to trim her neck hair, thinking the electrodes weren’t making contact with her skin, I discovered two infected holes in her neck where the electrodes had dug in.
My vet is sure that even though we left the collar on for two days, the cause of the injury was too high of a voltage being delivered. There were no burn marks on her skin, just two fleshy, infected holes in her neck. I didn’t change any setting on this unit when I got it, so I sent the unit back to the manufacturer for a refund and reimbursement for my vet visit. They are offering to exchange the collar for another unit, which is nice, but they won’t pay for my vet bill because I left the collar on for a longer than recommended time. SO MAD!!! I even checked the collar to see if I could fit my fingers between the electrodes and her neck and I could. I’m exchanging this unit for the SportDog NoBark 18 Deluxe, so we’ll see if that causes any more pain for my dog.
I relied on the numerous good ratings on Amazon and I was let down big time.

Being rechargeable is great. The collar does what it is suppose to do without hurting our Redbone coonhound.

I have a female dachshund who barks aggressively at all other dogs and some people we encounter on a walk. I put the bark collar on her, and she appeared shocked the first time or two that she yapped. Since then, I put it on her when we go for a walk, and she still mutters in a soft voice as we pass other dogs/people, but it’s nothing like that obnoxious yapping. Thanks for making an effective collar. I should say that even when I don’t have it on her, she doesn’t bark as much. I’m very pleased.

Our dog is fine until we leave, then she barks non-stop, driving our neighbors nuts.
We’ve tried a cheaper collar from Ebay, but the cheapness got us and the battery was able to have enough room to dislodge from the connectors, making it useless.
Anyways, We charged this one up and put it on, and it worked the first time.
Con: Rechargable battery. If you take it off your dog and dont remember to charge it, it may be useless the next time you need it, which is specific times for our dog (when we are not at home). Or if you take it off and forget to turn it off, the battery will drain.
Con: It looks like you can only get this battery from the manufacturer – not even Batteries Plus has this battery, although they say they can build one for it (?).
Con: The collar looks cheap. Not had a problem yet, but I am waiting for my dogs to get to playing and tear it off.

This collar has been a miracle so far…. but…. the collar was a bit of a challenge to get on my mini american eskimo (25-30 pounder). Once he understood what this thing was, and that this wasn’t the average collar, he decided that he wasn’t going to wear it any longer. The collar has a belt like harness (I guess to make it easy to tighten), so every time you try to put it on, you have to feed the collar through the loop, tighten it, and latch it through one of the many holes. This gave my dog plenty of time to put up a fuss, making it nearly impossible to get it on him correctly or at all.
My solution:
I purchased a standard nylon collar with a snapping latch, cut it open, fed it through the 10R unit, and sewed it back together. NOW this thing works fabulously. I have it pre-adjusted for my dogs neck, so I just put it around his neck and snap it in the back. I get about 1 or 2 barks out of him, and it’s near silence until it comes off.
I highly recommend this, but it may be tricky to put on a rambunctious dog.
