Midwest Select Triple-Door Dog Crate, 42 Inches by 28 Inches by 30 Inches

I bought this crate last summer to replace a Vari-Kennel 700 model for my 90 pound female rottweiler.
Within 6 months of purchase the pan is destroyed. It cracked along all the pressure points created by the wire grid underneath, the crate is useless now. To replace the pan would be about 40 dollars. WHY would I want to replace this pan with the same flimsy hunk of plastic that cracked once already? The only other recourse I can think of is to buy a horse stall mat from the feed shop and cut it down to size. That will add about 50 pounds of weight to the crate, so I am not really too keen on wasting another 30 dollars on a stall mat..
Now I have a metal pen that is completely worthless and will be shelling out the money for the Vari Kennel again. At least that one lasted 8 years…and kept the hair at bay during shedding season. I also feel if the dog wanted to she could rip this crate to shreds.
Maybe if you have a 10 – 20 pound dog this is the crate for you.

The crate itself is okay, though it can be made a tad stronger to fit large breeds judging the size of the crate. The charcoal color is nice. What was the most disappointing, rather upsetting, was the way the crate had been shipped! The shipper plainly stuck shipping label on the original box (as if you are picking it up at a local pet store) with NO PROPER CUSHIONING or SHIPPING PACKAGING – the package came in its box half open, exposing the product. As a result, any one can imagine how the crate appeared as it was assembled — apparent scratches and whopping here and there! What was even worse was I emailed Amazon thereafter to express my frustration which led to an as-if-helpful response saying I might feel free to return it. Shipping the gigantic item back would probably cost more than the crate itself, I had no choice but to keep it.
All in all, irresponsible shipping packaging and disappointing Amazon customer service.

I bought 2 36″ crates for my 50 lb dogs. They were shipped in the original boxes, which were beat up a little during delivery, but the crates were not damaged at all. It took me less than 5 minutes to set up the crates. It was a bit like a puzzle, but not difficult to do. Just to give you a little background, I’m a 5’1″ 118lb female and yes, the crates are heavy, but that’s the point. HEAVY duty wires will be heavy. It was awkward moving them when they were set up but hey, the crates are larger than I am and it was easy enough for me to do! Folded up, I can certainly carry them and put them in the trunk by myself (not to be mean, but maybe some people should lift some weights). I like that both of them fit easily into the trunk of our Altima. I am thinking of taking the two side doors off and sandwiching the two crates together. My dogs like to sleep together and they can go back and forth if they want some space. I actually wanted to get one large crate for both of them, but it wouldn’t fit into the trunk and my husband wanted the dogs to have more room.
PROS: 3 removable doors, pewter finish, easy to set up, appears to be made of heavy duty wire (my dogs are not chewers, but we will have to see how well they last with repeated use–breaking down for travel and nightly use for sleeping), plastic pan slides out easily but can also be locked into place
Things to consider: One of the hooks was bent, but I used some pliers to bend it back easily (I also used cardboard to protect the pewter finish), one of the door latches sticks a little (but it’s not a big deal), the doors are a little difficult to put back on because you have to line it up perfectly (but also not a big deal)
CONS: None that I know of but again, we’ll see how well they last with use.

This crate has some pros and cons to it. I will list off those here. If you’d like to read a little more about my experience with the crate then continue after the list.
PROs:
*It’s nice and large. Large enough for a BIG dog and larger enough for a medium breed to feel like they’re in a comfy den.
*It has 3 doors so you can set it in a few different directions OR put a divider in the middle and have two dogs in there that can be let out on either side.
*It’s collapsable so you can travel with it.
*It’s sturdy and holds up against the elements pretty well
CONs:
* It’s BIG. This would not be a good crate for a small space.
*The plastic parts on it do not hold up against the elements as well.
* It’s heavy. Sure it can fold up but good like being 5’2″ and trying to lug this thing into the trunk of your car. It’s hard!
* If you have a car and travel with it you will most likely have to put your backseats down, thus redering it useless if your dog is alos traveling in the backseat.
So I bought this crate because I wasn’t how sure how big my border collie puppy would be. Since he was 8 weeks old when I got him (and this one didn’t have a dividered for growers) I used the smallest version of this crate (with one door) and ended up using this one to house my baby chicks. This crate was sat outside with the chicks all summer in our VEY hot Texas heat (108…105, 110…all summer) and did really well in the heat (don’t worry so did the chicks) This crate has been in the heat and the rain and still works very well. The heat did weakend the plastic handles though as I pulled on one and it broke off. Once the chickens got big enough to place in the coop the crate still stayed outside until my pup got big enough for it. He’s 6 months old now and I could comfotably fit 2 of him in there. The plastic bottom did crate and the crack does keep growing. I use it still but I place blankets or his pillow on top of it so it’s okay. He LOVES this size much better than the ones recommended for him. Not even full grown I have a plastic 36″ airline crate for him. I set this crate up and he walked in and out of it all on his own. With the plastic crate the only time he goes in it on his own is….well never. I always have to tell him “Go Crate.” and he will then go. This is a great great if you have the space and a big dog.

This crate is terrific with the 3 different access doors. It is bigger than I thought it would be, but for our Golden it works fine. Takes up as much space as our computer desk. I’m giving it 4 stars, our Golden gives it 5 stars because now he can do his long stretches.
