We offer a varity of Sled Dog Programs to Scouts, Youth Group and Homeschooler's
in the Tri State Area of Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania

Scout Troop Patch Program


Scout will earn a Patch by learning the sport of Mushing! Scouts will work with an Alaskan Husky Sled Dog Racing Team. They will learn how to act safely around dogs and gain hands on experience by learning to: Make a one dog line, harness a dog, bootie a dog, practice a pre race health check, hook a dog to the sled. Scout will be given a short ride with a 6 dog team. We will discuss the history of the commemorative Iditarod Sled Dog Race. We will also discuss what makes a good sled dog, commands, training, transportation, equipment, and how they live. Helmets and safety glasses will be provided. 

Who: All ages levels
When: December to February
Where: Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area, Fair Hill, MD (Parking Fee per car, $4 out of state, $3 in State)
Notes: Dress appropriate for winter weather
Time: Minimum 3 hours
Cost: $27.00 per scout (minimum 4, maximum 10 scouts)

"No Ride Patch Program"

The "No Ride Patch Program" is the same as the Patch Program with out the Howling Huskies taking them for a ride.  Scouts will receive a Patch with this program.


Who: All ages levels
When: Program is offer all year
Where: Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area, Fair Hill, MD (Parking Fee per car, $4 out of state, $3 in State)
Time: Minimum 2 - 3 hours
Cost: $15.00 per scout
Scouting Troops - Cart Rides with an Iditarod Theme

An Educational presentation with an Iditarod Theme. The presentation will include a brief history of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Your Scouts will have hands on experience as they prepare for their own Iditarod ride and experience the thrill of the race. Sled equipment and dogs care are the focus of the checkpoints where we stop and exchange passengers as we travel on a 3 to 4 miles trail. You will have plenty of time to spend with the dogs after the presentation. Some restrictions will apply to the number of riders based on how many scouts participate in the actual dog cart ride.

Class Room Presentation Meet the Howling Huskies

Owner Sue Thompson who will show an educational Iditarod PowerPoint presentation and demonstration on sled dog care and mushing equipment. For schools that will allow; we will bring our lead dog, Mars, to demonstrate harness fit, booties and what it takes to be a Lead Dog.
Suitable for grade 4 and 5 classes studying the Iditarod Sled Dog Race or reading John London books. Presentation only - no rides.
