My vet says Huskys are whiners. And my dog is a Husky/Shepherd mix. She has been outside, has water, food, treats, and she still whines. What is there that I could do, to get her to stop whining. She is an old dog, and hopefully looking for an answer from someone who has experience with this matter.

Huskies are natural born whinners that have HUGE problems with seperation anxiety. The only way to fix it, is let her spend more time with you and not be alone. Or, get another pet to keep her company!

Well I have a 13 year old husky (and I love her to death) and she will “talk” to you. Just give her attention and get another dog. That or make her an inside dog. That and if you live somewhere where its really really hot keep her inside. Thats wwhat was wrong with my whiner.

I’ve not known huskies to be whiners, but they will howl. This dog is very obviously lonely and if you want her to stop whining, especially since she’s an old dog, then let her be what she needs to be – a companion! Food, water and treats are not what a dog needs to be happy. She needs the companionship of a person and unless she gets it, she’ll keep whining.

I lived with someone who had a husky that whined.

She set up a mirror so the dog could see itself, and also kept a radio or tv on all day for it. it helped alot most of the time.

You kinda just have to get used to it unfortunately.

She is bored/lonesome…Play with her more…get her out and about and let her (make sure) she runs and plays….I have a 4 yr.old Husky/Lab..and she loves to just get outside and run and have us with her….you can’t just leave your dog outside with no stimulant of any kind…Good Luck

Try leaving a radio or TV going she might think you are still around give her lots to occupy her when you are not there and try to spend more time if you can with her.

I had friends with Husky’s and they said that they are real talkers, they will talk to you when they want attention or just to talk. She is outside and away from you, so she is probably lonely. Are you sure that she does not have a medical problem? You say that she is older and this is the time that they start to have problems, arthritis, heart problems, dental problems. Have her checked out by a vet and make sure that she is not ill.

dogs don’t whine for no reason , the dog wants something from you, you said she is old, how old maybe, she is telling something has changed for her maybe she is saying I’m tired and want to be excused from being your companion, old age is tuff to handle, do you have a good vet to talk to

you can’t stop it, but with the proper training you can curb it. Like teaching her when it is not acceptable to howl. Here is some good links below about siberians, and shepherds. And how old is she by the way? What shepherd is she mixed with? She sounds like she has some aussie shepherd in her because they are pretty vocal as well. Has she done this all her life? Please let us know.

Ok I had a person next door who had a husky and he would whine all the time. What he did was he would go outside in the morning before he went to work and played for 20 minutes sometimes less. Then when he would come home he would do the same thing that he does in the morning play for 20 minutes.
After he was done playing he would go in the house with the dog and continue playing for hours.

you can’t. they are very vocal. but you say she’s old. so maybe she’s trying to tell you something… like maybe “I’m not feeling good” get her inside for a while. if she seems better, then i would say that she’s just getting too old to be outside all the time. she most likely has aches and pains. and maybe there is someting going on that is seriously bothering her. arthritis, bad hips, no telling? If she’s outside all the time how can you possibly know if there is something bothering her? other than the obvious whining that hasn’t bothered you until now.

get her inside and check it out. i know that huskies are much happier outside, but please pay attention to your dog. she may be retired to an indoor stay for her senior years. so please make arangements for that

He is only talking to you, when he does simply in a harsh voice say no and eventually he will get the hint he is in trouble. It is a matter of training an old dog a new trick. A companion may also help the matter.

My husky hardly makes a peep…but he does whine when he’s lonely….you need to spend more time with her! Huskies are very very affectionate and need their pack around them at all times! Or get her a companion!
