I understand that huskies are massive shedders but come on!!! I have two huskies. They are males, bothers and will turn 1 July 29th. They have slightly different shedding “styles”. One sheds individual hairs and the other one sheds clumps of fur! I’m vacuuming everyday, sometimes twice a day!! I do brush them every couple of days but I may not be using the right kind of brush. It doesn’t seem to get the job done. Can anyone recommend a good brush or another solution? I’m ready to shave them(kidding-LOL). Also, do they shed always or just at certain times of the year and for how long? Thanks in advance!

I have a German Shepherd and I don’t know how I ever got along without it. I have tried many many other deshedding tools, but this is by far the best!!
The one who is shedding chunks is “blowing his coat”. My shep does this too.

There’s this one lady on here who claims to be a professional groomer and will probably try to tell you the Furminator is not worth the money. Don’t listen to her. It is completely worth the money! She says it takes too long to go over the entire dog. Yes it does take a little longer to comb them, but it gets out most all of the shedding undercoat. The Furminator is great!
She says she won’t use one because it takes too long. I would not take my animal to a groomer who is too lazy to do the best job they can.

As they are just leaving their puppyhood, they are really doing a double shedding. Loosing all the cute, soft puppy fuzz along with loosing some extra winter coat. Brush them daily, twice if needed. This should be the worst of their shedding seasons. We had two samoyds when I was growing up, so I know what you are going through. But, you can’t shave a dog with an undercoat, so you really are just stuck with lots and lots of brushing. Heck, if you have some kids in the neighborhood, and the dogs don’t mind kids, pay them a couple of bucks a day to do the job for you.

The site in the 1st source says they shed heavily twice a year and reccomends brushing them with a metal comb (check 2nd source) I also find that a slicker brush works well to get out loose hair in the undercoat. (3rd source.)

do you have a shedding brush? also you should groom them every day (not in your house) to get the exess fur off.

You can get a rubber curry brush to help curry out the under coat. I know it worked wonders when I would brush Akitas.
