I currently have a black labrador and a jack russell. The labrador is very old and jack is about 4 years. We are going to get a husky puppy but i am thinking i might get a pair. Do you think that i should get one or two huskies? Also should i get a male or female. Thanks

Huskies are very active, they chew everything, they’re very very big trouble makers. They might stress out your labrador. Are you sure you even want 1?? lol
I would advise that you get one puppy because generally huskies are pack animals and will stick together and would most likely not get along with your current dogs. However if you have a single husky puppy it will most likely look for approval and “guidance” from your current dogs.
As to male or female either would be a good dog, just keep in mind that males tend to be more ready to run away from home for periods of time. And females tend to think of the family as her puppies and doesn’t like to stray too far. However, if you have a female and don’t get her fixed than she can get pregnant and males can’t obviously.
Hope this helps!
Unless you and your family are very experianced in training head strong dogs and have the time to work with each puppy seperatly then you should stick with one. Huskies are much harder to train than the lab or JRT you currently have
As for gender it is a preferance. Both can make great dogs.
Unless you’re willing to invest a lot of time exercising the dog, can completely (I mean, *completely*) escape proof your yard, and are able to discipline the dog with a loving but firm hand, do *not* get a single Husky.
My dog is a pit bull/Husky/GSD mix that needs a 4 mile walk and two treadmill sessions every day to drain him of his excess energy (and he’s an estimated 4 years old).
Huskies are great dogs, but need very experienced handlers. Even those handlers would probably pull their hair out with two Husky puppies. They have a high prey drive and could easily drag their owners on a walk after a squirrel if not properly trained. They can become destructive when bored and are notorious escape artists. They can be good companions, but only in the hands of the right kind of owner.
If you’re still dead set on a Husky, search petfinder.com for an adult Husky. Some dogs live in foster homes, which means the dog will have undergone basic obedience training and been housebroken. The foster caretaker will be able to let you know how the dog is in the home and with other dogs. More mature Huskies will be out of the hyper, puppy phrase, but will still need to be mentally and physically challenged daily to keep it happy and balanced.
One at a time. Once the first one is housebroken and obedience trained, you can get another, of the opposite sex. If you still want a husky. You should be sure that a husky is what you want: they have personalities NOTHING like Labs or JRTs, and they can not be trusted offleash: they were bred to run and they will. Unlike herding and hunting dogs, they don’t run in circles. Huskies run in straight lines. He’ll be in the next county before you can get to your car unless he gets hit by a car, himself.
Get 1! Then when that one is 3 years old decide if you want to go through that again. LOL Our husky puppy was a complete handful until he was about 3 and started to calm down a bit. Definitely entertaining, but a ton of work. I would never recommend getting 2 at the same time. Good luck!
I have a pair of Husky/wolves and two American Dingo/GSD mixes. They are active, chewers, they can be agressive– so please think it over carefully. if you have an older lab then I wouldn’t get one because huskies play ROUGH. I would wait till he passes them get a pair as huskies like to be in pairs but they are hard to keep in a fence, dont do well in a house, and well they require a LOT of work.
Siberians do well in pairs of more. Hence why they are on a “team” with racing.
I’d HIGHLY recommend a different breed seeing as you have a senior dog and a small dog. Siberians are very hyperactive. A bit to much for a senior dog and they also have a high prey drive which isn’t in the Jacks favor…
Meeshka, I like the look of a siberian husky. They are so cute.
