I dunno about huskies, BUT Purina (from what I hear) is very very bad

I would call Diamond a bare minimum. Here’s a link to help you decide:

  3. Meaghan Edwards says:

Nope, your best bet is to go with something like Orijen.

Purina isn’t a very good food.
    Try Canidae or Wellness.

NO NO NO!!! Purina is a horrible food. An awesome food for siberian huskies is the new Blue Buffalo Wilderness formula! Blue Buffalo is one of the best comercially available dog foods, and their new formula is great for high energy dogs like huskies.

Here is a comparison of blue buffalo to Purina

You can go here and compare any food, really

Here is information the the blue buffalo Wilderness

For a high energy dog like huskies, it is PERFECT! I really would recomend it. It is more expensive then purina, but on the other hand, when the food is better quality you don’t have to feed as much for them to get the same amount of nutriants. 4 cups of blue buffalo is equal to 6 or 8 cups of purina dog food

Canidae (sorry, I think I spelt that wrong) is one of the best foods out there, but its harder to find in stores and you usually have to order it, which is why I recomend Blue Wilderness. You can buy it at petsmart

If you’re unsure, talk with your veterinarian and get a recommendation from them or go to

and see if they have anything there to help you. If all else fails, you can contact a breeder in your area and get a recommendation from them.

I have a 12 year old Siberian mix that has eaten Purina all her life and she is in great shape.

Do some research on what Huskies, and dogs in general, should eat. Dogs have a digestive system that is made to eat fresh meat, raw or slightly cooked. I switched mine over years ago and I will never go back. I do, however, keep a dry kibble on hand for emergencies. It’s Wellness Core…it’s meat based, no grains. If you want to know more about cooking for your dogs, I can refer you to some sites or tell you what I feed mine. It’s a lot easier than people think.

  9. Erin ? (FUTURE Keeshond breeder) says:

Purina is a bad dog food no matter what breed. It contains a lot of byproducts, fillers, preservatives, and other things that can’t be well digested by dogs. And it lacks a lot of the meat and protein necessary in a dog’s diet. I would not recommend this food.

Here is a list of good dog foods:

    Canidae All Life Stages
    Wellness
    Solid Gold
    Orijen
    Innova
    Artemis
    Fromm
    Merrick
    Taste Of The Wild
    Blue Buffalo
    California Natural
    Nature’s Variety
    ZiwiPeak
    Eagle Pack *Holistic*
Chicken Soup For The Dog Lover’s Soul

    Best of luck!!! ?

Purina comes in several types from Dog Chow to Pro Plan Selects. The better types (Pro Plan or Pro Plan Selects) are not horrible but for the price you would be better off with Nutro Natural Choice or Nutro Ultra. Blue Buffalo is by far the best out there but it is also not cheap. If money is not a problem Go with Blue Buffalo if you are concerned with price Nutro Ultra.

On a side note alot of Vets recommend Science Diet but when you hear that you should keep in mind the company that makes Science Diet (Hills) is the biggest provider of Veterinary scholarships which would make me a little concerned a vets objectiveness when recommending dog food

  11. kate c says:

Purina does the same thing as science diet. They like to give scholarships, and teach vets in school about nutrition, so a lot of vets sell it. The brands you see in the vets offices are the companies teaching those vets about nutrition.

Kibbles that I would feed: Evo and Orijen.

I personally feed raw. It is the best out there, not the pre-made stuff either, homemade is best. http://www.rawmeatybones.com(tom lonsdales site, a vet in australia)
http://www.rawfed.com/myths and http://www.rawlearning are the sites I used to learn about raw, but I asked questions on http://www.bigdogsporch.com.
If you dont want to feed raw, I still recommend doing your research. I wasnt going to ever feed raw since I am a vegan(in raw transition). I wouldnt pick up the meat and hadnt for over 5 years. I started researching the ancedotal information out there and everything made sense, so not to say I was brainwashed, but I was convinced that I needed to eventually make the switch. That was only two months ago, and I can already see the difference in my dogs. Everything the ancedotal information claims is 100% true, even for a dog fed innova.
